Bing Places for business in Australia

A step-by-step guide from Social Web. Updated 19 October 2026.

Bing Places is Microsoft's free listing for Bing search and Bing Maps. ChatGPT's search draws on Bing, so this is the listing it can find.

Being on Bing doesn't mean ChatGPT, or anything else, will recommend you. Nobody can promise that. What a Bing Places listing does is give Bing your own version of your name, hours and phone number, instead of leaving it to piece them together from other websites.

The old address, bingplaces.com, now takes you to bing.com/forbusiness. That's where you start.

Before you start: get your details in one place

Copy these from your website so every listing says the same thing. The free listings guide explains why.

Go to bing.com/forbusiness and sign in. You can use a Microsoft account, a Google account, a Facebook account or a work account. Whatever listings you claim belong to the email you sign in with, so use one the business will keep.

Then pick one of the two ways below.

Option 1: Import from your Google Business Profile

If you already have a verified Google Business Profile, this is the quickest way, and it keeps the two listings matching.

  1. In your Bing Places account, select Import from your Google Business Profile.
  2. Choose how often to sync: weekly, fortnightly or monthly.
  3. Sign in to Google.
  4. Import the listings Bing finds.

If your business is already verified on Google, Bing verifies the imported listing for you. A few things Bing's own help says you should know:

That last point is the reason to import. Your hours and phone number live in one place, and Bing follows.

Option 2: Add or claim it yourself

  1. Search for your business. Choose Australia as the country, then enter your business name and suburb.
  2. If you find your listing and nobody has claimed it, claim it. If someone else has, request access from that account.
  3. If you've moved, don't claim the old listing. Create a new one at your new address and mark the old one as closed.
  4. If there's no listing at all, choose Create a new business.
  5. Fill in your name, address, phone, website, hours and category.

Bing checks these basic details against what it finds elsewhere online. If your listing says one thing and your website says another, the change may not publish. One more reason to copy everything from your site.

Verify

Bing sends you a PIN to prove you run the business. Depending on your listing, it can come by phone, text, email or postcard. Not every option is offered to every business.

You can only make limited edits until you're verified.

If you go to your customers: hide your address

Bing calls this a service-area business: a plumber, a cleaner or anyone who travels to the customer. Your address stays on file for verification but doesn't show on the listing.

  1. Select your listing and choose Edit.
  2. Enter your full, correct address and make sure a category is selected.
  3. Turn on the option to hide your address.
  4. In Service areas, add the suburbs, regions or postcodes you cover. You can add up to 20. Press Enter after each one.
  5. Save.

Bing won't let you hide the address until you've added at least one service area.

How long it takes

After verification, Bing says a listing usually takes 7 to 12 days to go live, and up to two weeks outside North America. Every edit sends the listing back through that cycle, so make your changes in one go and then wait.
